Product Overview

Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Marilyn Horne - Live At The Sydney Opera House (CD DOUBLE (SLIMLINE CASE)) Re-live two magical evenings when Joan Sutherlandsang first with Luciano Pavarotti, then with Marilyn Horne under the sails of the Sydney Opera House. Recorded in 1983 and 1985, these gala concerts are conducted by Richard Bonynge, and feature three of the greatest voices of all time singing arias and duets from their signature opera roles. Joan Sutherland, 'La Stupenda', is sublime in some of her best-loved arias Ó'Les oiseauxdans la charmille' from The Tales of Hoffmann, Verdi's 'Addiodel passato', Cilea's'Io son l'umileancella' and Handel's 'Tornamia vagheggiar' Óincluding many of the jewels of the bel cantorepertoire that was her speciality. Luciano Pavarotti performs some of the great tenor arias, including 'Vestila giubba' from Pagliacci, 'Una furtiva lagrima' from Donizetti's L'elisird'amore, and 'Reconditaarmonia' from Tosca. Marilyn Horne shines in spectacular, passionate arias by Handel, Rossini and Meyerbeer, as well as the lush beauty of 'Mon coeurs'ouvreà ta voix' from Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila. And Sutherland comes together with Pavarotti and Horne for duet performances shaped and perfected by their many years appearing alongside each other on stage and recordings: 'Brindisi' and 'Parigi, o cara' from La Traviata, 'Prendi: l'aneltidono' from Bellini's La Sonnambula, 'Sulla tombacherinserra' from Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, the Flower Duet ('Sous le dômeépais') from Lakméand the Barcarolle ('Belle nuit, ô nuitd'amour') from The Tales of Hoffmann. This double CD restores to the catalogue two landmark events, and performances never to be forgotten.
