A 3-part seminal music documentary series looking at the inspirational work of acclaimed music video directorsRussell Mulcahy, David Mallet and Wayne Isham. This unique series brings you all the secrets and ideas behind many of the most memorable and remarkable videos in music history. It explores how the industry changed in the early ‘80s when the music video transformed the way music was promoted and ultimately sold.
Utilising a combination of rare, captured moments and exclusive new interviews from the artists and directors themselves, the creative process behind the videos is exposed. By mixing the original videos with the director and artists’ stories, we reveal the creative genius, production madness and general excesses from a time when music videos ruled the world.

VOLUME 1 – RUSSELL MULCAHY
A look at the glittering career of Australian director Russell Mulcahy, whose pioneering videos included Duran Duran’s Rio, Queen’s It’s A Kind Of Magic and The Buggles’ Video Killed The Radio Star. Despite creating some of the most ground-breaking and influential videos of the decade, Mulcahy confesses that most of his 400-odd videos were born out “organised chaos”. He states: “No one at that stage knew what videos were about so they let you throw in the kitchen sink... no one around me knew what the hell I was doing.”
Despite stories of on-set clashes, tantrums and near-death experiences, Mulcahy created some of the most iconic videos of the last century and a host of stars, including Roger Taylor, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, Kim Carnes, Bonnie Tyler, Gary Kemp and Mick Fleetwood, pay tribute to his undoubted talent.
