Includes the chamber music collaborations released on EMI/Warner and RCA/Sony. Half a century of chamber-music recording, from his first eclectic recording with pianist Malcolm Frager (Mozart, Schumann) in 1966 in London, to the final chapter with cellist Catherine Hewgill, in 2016 in Australia. Music-making with key instrumentalists (including Itzhak Perlman, Lynn Harrell, Ida Haendel), orchestral colleagues (Barry Tuckwell, Catherine Hewgill, Frank Cohen, André Previn) and his sons (Dmitri and Vovka).
Composers range from Mozart to Szymanowski, taking in a large corpus of Beethoven’s chamber music with piano (sonatas for violin and cello, the piano trios, the piano quintet) and Brahms (violin, clarinet and cello sonatas, piano quintet, horn trio). Recordings of song repertoire with Barbara Bonney, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Matthias Goerne, John Shirley-Quirk, Elisabeth Söderström.
